Subject: | National Falls Prevention Awareness Day In Pennsylvania |
In the very near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing September 23, 2014, as “National Falls Prevention Awareness Day” in Pennsylvania. Falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths among people over the age of 65, and an older Pennsylvanian is hospitalized due to a fall-related injury every 11 minutes. Falling is not an inevitable result of aging. Studies show that through a combination of falls prevention strategies, evidence-based interventions, practical lifestyle adjustments, and community partnerships, we can significantly reduce falls among older adults, helping them remain healthy, independent and self-sufficient. Please join me in promoting and increasing public awareness about reducing and preventing falls among the older adult population and encouraging Pennsylvanians to take steps to protect those who are at increased risk of falling. |
