MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 22, 2024 02:45 PM
From: Senator Christine M. Tartaglione
To: All Senate members
Subject: Recognizing May 2024 as "Older Americans Month"

In the near future, I will introduce a resolution recognizing the month of May 2024 as “Older Americans Month” in Pennsylvania.

Our nation has made great strides to support older Americans as they transition into their new phase of life. Since 1963, we have honored their legacies and ongoing contributions through Older Americans Month. In Pennsylvania, during this monthly designation, we recognize the contributions made by older persons and we pay tribute to their accomplishments within our communities.

This year’s theme is “Powered by Connection”, which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being. During this month, we are encouraged to explore the vital role that connectedness plays in supporting independence and aging by combatting isolation, loneliness, and other issues.

In the spirit of “Older Americans Month”, I encourage everyone to engage in activities that elevate and support seniors across the Commonwealth. Whether it’s creating a forum for older adults to share their stories, organizing a community event inclusive of all ages, or fundraising on behalf of local programs that serve older adults, there are many ways we can celebrate older Pennsylvanians this May and beyond.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution on behalf of older citizens in this Commonwealth.
