Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 5, 2024 02:55 PM
From: Senator Carolyn T. Comitta and Sen. Jimmy Dillon
To: All Senate members
Subject: April 2024 as Autism Acceptance Month

In the near future, we will introduce a resolution designating April 2024 as Autism Acceptance Month in Pennsylvania.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a complex developmental disability identified by a range of conditions that may impact how individuals behave, communicate, interact, and learn. It impacts an estimated 1 in 36 American children according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Most of us know someone who has Autism. As part of Autism Acceptance Month, it’s important to highlight the value and contributions that people with autism bring to our communities, schools, and workplaces. After all, we all learn in different ways and bring unique perspectives, gifts, and talents to our roles.

This resolution intends to highlight the greater need for recognition, understanding and acceptance to ensure that all individuals living with Autism are accurately diagnosed and effectively and appropriately supported throughout their lives.

Throughout the month of April, our offices will be promoting information, resources and services for people with Autism and their families in Pennsylvania; included will be resources provided by the Office of Developmental Programs, in the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.

Please join us in co-sponsoring this resolution to promote awareness and acceptance for individuals living with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families.
