Subject: | Compensation of Cabinet Nominees |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would change the way that Cabinet nominees are compensated during the confirmation process. Currently nominees for cabinet level secretaries receive their full statutory compensation upon nomination even though they have not been confirmed to their position. Under my legislation, the nominee (or Acting Secretary) would be compensated at 80% of the statutory compensation for the position in which they are nominated until they have been confirmed by the Senate. The proposed legislation will have no effect on the 25 legislative day period for Senate confirmation. As a point of information, at the Federal level, cabinet level nominees receive no compensation until they are confirmed. I hope you join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
