Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 10, 2018 12:49 PM
From: Senator Mario M. Scavello and Sen. Lawrence M. Farnese, Jr.
To: All Senate members
Subject: “WEDnetPA Day” in Pennsylvania

In the future, we intend to introduce a resolution recognizing April 17, 2018 as “WEDnetPA Day” in Pennsylvania.

WEDnetPA, was created in 1999 as a state-funded workforce program within the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to support essential and advanced technology skills training for employees of manufacturing and technology companies throughout the Commonwealth.

WEDnetPA was created to support and leverage a company’s investment in employee training to reach a level of performance otherwise unattainable. WEDnetPA services are delivered through a cost-effective network of educational partners that include community colleges, state system universities and other stakeholders. Companies and employees greatly benefit from these services and WEDnetPA has engaged more than 8,500 private-sector training providers to work with nearly 18,000 Pennsylvania companies to help train approximately 1.2 million workers.

Nearly 95% of participating companies experience a positive impact on their businesses, including increased sales, decreased costs and fewer work-related accidents. Nearly 99% of workers who receive training report positive outcomes, including job promotions, pay raises and increased morale.

A well-trained and talented workforce is the foundation of a strong business community and thriving economy. Please join us in thanking the WEDnetPA Partners for their hard work and commitment toward improving the skills of Pennsylvania’s workers and the support it provides for our manufacturing and technology companies, and most importantly, in recognizing April 17, 2018 as “WEDnetPA Day.”

If you have any questions regarding this resolution, please contact Christine Zubeck in my office at 717-787-6123 or czubeck@pasen.gov. Thank you for your consideration.
