Subject: | Mushroom Month |
I will soon introduce a resolution designating September 2017 as "Mushroom Month" in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania leads the nation in mushroom production. The Commonwealth's 68 growers led all states by producing 584.1 million pounds, or 63 percent of all U.S. agaricus mushrooms sold during the 2014-2015 growing season, valued at $554.4 million. Pennsylvania's mushroom farms are family-owned and operated, some for as many as four generations. The 59 growers in Chester County produced 404 million pounds valued at $385 million dollars. The success of the mushroom industry greatly contributes to the economies of Chester County and the Commonwealth while preserving Pennsylvania's agricultural traditions and customs. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
