Subject: | April - Limb Loss Awareness Month |
In the near future, I plan on introducing a resolution designating the month of April 2017 as “Limb Loss Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Each day, more than 500 Americans lose a limb. More than 2 million Americans live with limb loss and that number grows by 185,000 each year. This month is dedicated to increase the knowledge needed to enable amputees to live full and productive lives and to educate the general public of the many challenges faced by the amputee community. Individuals afflicted with limb loss must overcome many hurdles. The physical effects may be the most visible, but many times the emotional difficulties surpass the physical impediments created by losing a limb. I have had the opportunity to personally experience the challenges faced by those affected with limb loss as I witnessed first-hand the impacts felt by two of my staff members when their loved ones lives where altered by limb loss and amputation. Therefore, I passionately encourage you to join me in supporting this resolution. |
