Subject: | 2016 Juneteenth Resolution |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing June 19, 2016 as “Juneteenth” in Pennsylvania. Juneteenth commemorates the day in which the last of the slaves located in Galveston, Texas were informed of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is one of the oldest African-American holiday observances in the United States. Juneteenth is recognized as a holiday observance in over 40 states as a way to acknowledge the past and celebrate the present. I invite you to join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
