Subject: | Resolution – State and National Park Month |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating the month of August 2016 as “State and National Park Month,” in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service and the important role the 29 national parks and 120 state parks of the Commonwealth contribute to our communities and our lives. The National Park Service (NPS) was founded on August 25, 1916, by President Woodrow Wilson with the mission to “conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and wildlife therein, and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations.” To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the NPS, all National Park Service sites that charge an entrance fee will offer free admission days. For a listing of free entrance days, please visit www.nps.gov. We should also be proud of our own state parks and encourage our constituents to use them. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this resolution designating August as “State and National Park Month,” and affirm the great societal value these parks parks play in communities across the Commonwealth. |
