Subject: | Safety Inspection |
I plan to introduce legislation that would amend Title 75, Vehicle Code, pertaining to vehicles required to have safety inspection. My legislation would provide an exemption for new vehicles for the first two years after the vehicle is manufactured. After such time, the new vehicle would be required to have a safety inspection. As we explore increases to transportation revenue, I believe it is important to, also, keep the consumer in mind. The safety inspection program in Pennsylvania provides a safer environment for the motoring public; however, during the first two years a vehicle is unlikely to need safety repairs. If it does, it would most certainly be detected and covered under the vehicles warranty program. This bill was introduced last session as SB 676 and was co-sponsored by Senators FONTANA, BROWNE, BREWSTER, VOGEL, VANCE, COSTA, HUGHES, BOSCOLA, and TARTAGLIONE. If you have any questions regarding this bill, please contact Josh Myers of my staff at 787-5400 or by email to jmyers@pasenate.com. Thank you for your consideration. |
