MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 27, 2014 09:06 AM
From: Senator Scott E. Hutchinson
To: All Senate members
Subject: Recognizing August 18 to 24, 2014 as ARIPPA’s 25th Anniversary

In the very near future, I plan on introducing a resolution recognizing the week of August 18 to 24, 2014 as ARRIPA’s 25th Anniversary of Producing Environmentally Beneficial Alternative Energy.

Organized in 1989, ARIPPA is a non-profit trade association representing alternative energy Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) plants that remove coal refuse from Abandoned Mine Land (AML) areas, converting it into alternative energy, and beneficially utilizing CFB ash to reclaim formerly damaged areas back to their natural state, without any expenditure of tax dollars.

Since 1989, ARIPPA has removed and converted over 212 million tons of coal refuse into alternative energy, reclaimed over 8,200 acres of formerly environmentally damaged mine-scarred lands, restored hundreds of miles of formerly dead polluted streams, eliminated public safety hazards, including 100’s of uncontrollably burning coal refuse fires emitting ground level pollutants, produced 1,500 MGW annually of alternative energy and/or steam, and directly or indirectly led to the employment of 1,000’s of citizens across this Commonwealth.

In addition to its positive environmental and economic impact and its contribution to producing environmentally beneficial alternative energy, ARIPPA has also donated thousands of dollars to various deserving volunteer watershed and conservancy groups performing Abandoned Mine Land (AML) and/or Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) remediation improvements.

Adoption of this resolution is necessary in showing our appreciation for ARIPPAs 25 years of dedicated service in this Commonwealth, producing environmentally beneficial alternative energy, cleaning up abandoned mine sites, and helping to create jobs.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution.
