Subject: | Recognizing the 75th Anniversary of National Aviation Day |
In the near future, I will be introducing resolution recognizing August 19th as National Aviation Day. Established in 1939 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, National Aviation Day is a day to celebrate the history of the proud history of aviation in our country. One of the goals of National Aviation Day is to provide scouting organizations an opportunity to earn their aviation merit badges. In 2012, over 300 scouts earned their Aviation Merit Badge during Aviation Day across the Commonwealth. August 19th is also the birthday of Orville Wright, who, along with his brother Wilbur, made significant contributions to powered flight. Please join me in sponsoring this resolution recognizing the 75th anniversary celebrating National Aviation Day on August 19. Please contact Jon Hopcraft of my office at 787-2637 or at jhopcraft@pasen.gov with any questions. |
