Subject: Co-Sponsorship: Gun Violence Legislation
 
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce legislation from last session in an attempt to curb gun violence in Pennsylvania.

Illegal possession of firearms poses a growing threat to residents across the United States. Violence and crime resulting from these unlawfully-owned weapons has reached an alarming rate in recent years and has become overwhelmingly apparent in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In the City of Philadelphia, many police officers and innocent civilians have been injured or killed as a result of illegal firearms. To deter such occurrences in the future, I intend to reintroduce Senate Bill 232 of 2011-2012, which would require all firearms sold or transferred in the City of Philadelphia be registered with the Pennsylvania State Police. Further, I intend to reintroduce Senate Bill 233 of 2011-2012, which would require lost or stolen firearms be reported to the local police department within 24 hours of the event.

S.B. 232 was previously co-sponsored by Senators Washington, Kitchen, Williams and Farnese. S.B. 233 was previously co-sponsored by Senators Washington, Fontana, Kitchen and Farnese.
