From: Representative Jim Rigby
To: All House members
Subject: Private Philip A. Watt Memorial Bridge

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation designating a bridge carrying State Route 53 over Clearfield Creek in Gallitzin Township, Cambria County as Private Philip A. Watt Memorial Bridge.

Philip A. Watt was born on May 21, 1921, in Ashville Pennsylvania. Philip enlisted in the United States Army on June 11, 1942, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He left the United States for foreign service on January 14, 1943, and held the rank of Private as a member of Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 13th Armored Regiment, 1 Armored Division.

On May 23rd, 1944, the 13th Armored Regiment was sent to Anzio, in Italy to participate in the Battle of Anzio. On May 30, 1944, Private Philip Watt was killed in action around Anzio. Private Philip Watt is buried in the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery in Nettuno, Italy. Private Watt was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart for his service along with the Army Presidential Unit Citation, the Army Good Conduct Medal.

I hope you will sponsor this legislation and join me in honoring this fallen hero.
