MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 3, 2023 03:59 PM
From: Representative Stephen Kinsey and Rep. Donna Bullock
To: All House members
Subject: Recognizing October 2023 as “Special Needs Law Month”

It is essential for parents and siblings of individuals with special needs to plan for the financial future of their child or sibling after their death. Public benefits do not cover all the basic living expenses of individuals with special needs, leaving them vulnerable to financial hardship should a supportive parent or sibling pass away. The National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys has established October as “National Special Needs Law Month” in order to spread awareness of the resources available to individuals with special needs and their loved ones in planning their financial future.

For this reason, we will be introducing a resolution recognizing October 2023 as “Special Needs Law Month” in Pennsylvania. By recognizing “Special Needs Law Month,” Pennsylvania can raise awareness for vital resources that provide financial assistance to individuals with special needs and their loved ones.

Please co-sponsor this important resolution to inform individuals with special needs and their families of all the options available to them to help ensure their lifelong wellbeing.
