House of Representatives
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 3, 2023 02:38 PM
From: Representative Thomas L. Mehaffie, III and Rep. Patty Kim
To: All House members
Subject: Ombudsman Representation on the Long-Term Care Council

In the near future, Representative Kim and I plan to introduce legislation that would add a member of the Pennsylvania Long-Term Care Ombudsman’s Office to the Pennsylvania Long-Term Care Council.

Pennsylvania Ombudsmen are federally mandated, legally-based and state certified via standardized training to actively advocate and give voice to older consumers of long-term care services, whether delivered in the community or a facility-based setting.  The issue of COVID-19 in our State long-term care facilities has heightened the need for a stronger advocacy of our older adult community.  I believe that adding the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman or his/her designee to the Long-Term Care Commission would only help to enhance the coordination and care of our senior citizens.

We hope you will join us in co-sponsoring this simple but important piece of legislation.

Introduced as HB1300
