MEMORANDUM

To: All House members
Subject: Child and Adult Care Food Program Supplement

Care facilities for children and adults provide an invaluable service to our state. These facilities allow us to work while knowing that our loved ones are in safe hands. Unfortunately, these facilities deal with incredibly high operating costs. The Child and Adult Care Food Program is a federal program that reimburses care facilities for food they serve to needy enrollees. This program, while important, does not go far enough to alleviate the burden on facilities of the high cost of feeding enrollees.

That is why we are introducing legislation to create the Child and Adult Care Food Program Supplement. This legislation will provide supplemental food funds to facilities already participating in the federal Child and Adult Care Food Program and allow them to better serve their enrollees by offering more services or – if the facility is a non-profit – stabilize their finances to ensure continued success.

If we are to make our state’s economy as strong as it can be, it is crucial that everyone who wants to work, can work. By ensuring care facilities are supported, we give families the confidence to invest in Pennsylvania and continue their employment without concern for the caring and well-being of their dependents.

It is time that we help the facilities that keep our economy running. Please join us in co-sponsoring this bill so we can help those who care for our loved ones.
