MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 9, 2024 12:05 PM
From: Representative Greg Scott
To: All House members
Subject: Designating May 5-11, 2024 as “Correctional Officers Week”

Correctional officers are an integral part of the criminal justice system. They are fundamental in providing security and successfully operating correctional facilities. Moreover, they provide support and facilitate rehabilitative resources for incarcerated individuals. However, correctional officers are often subject to dangerous situations as they work to prevent and resolve conflict. This high-stress environment often leads to mental health consequences and burnout.

In order to show appreciation for their difficult but critically important work, National Correctional Officers Week has been observed nationwide since 1984. For this reason, I intend to introduce a resolution that would designate May 5 through May 11, 2024, as “Correctional Officers Week” in Pennsylvania. It is imperative that we recognize the valuable work that correctional officers contribute to the criminal justice system.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution so that we may demonstrate our appreciation for correctional officers.
