Subject: | Fallen Firefighters Survivors’ Week and Fallen Firefighters Survivors’ Day |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating May 7 through May 13, 2018, as “Fallen Firefighters Survivors’ Week” and May 11, 2018, as “Fallen Firefighters Survivors’ Day” in Pennsylvania. Firefighters, whether volunteer or career, bravely serve the people of the Commonwealth every day. Thousands of firefighters risk their lives with each emergency call they respond to while on duty. Tragically, not all who respond to such calls make it back to their fire station alive. Each fallen firefighter leaves behind family and other loved ones, as well as their fellow firefighters. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) is a nonprofit organization that was created by the United States Congress in 1992 to honor and remember America’s fallen firefighters. The NFFF also provides resources to assist their survivors and works within the fire service community to reduce firefighter injuries and deaths. I believe it is fitting that we honor fallen firefighters whenever possible and recognize their survivors. To that end, please consider joining me in sponsoring this important resolution. |
