Subject: | Commemorating “Community Service Appreciation Month” |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution commemorating “Community Service Appreciation Month” in the Commonwealth, observed during the month of April 2018. Every citizen of this Commonwealth who volunteers for community service displays not only a strong sense of civic pride, but a clear commitment to serving their fellow citizens. Each year, these individuals commit to donating significant hours of their time in support of foundations and non-profit corporations to better their communities, our Commonwealth, and our country. According to the most recent statistics available, in 2015 alone over 3 million Pennsylvanians volunteered nearly 339 million hours in generous service. The Corporation for National and Community Service has estimated the dollar value of time donated by Pennsylvania’s volunteers at $7.7 billion. This effort, time, and money, donated for the common good, should be recognized and applauded. I hope you will join me in recognizing the value of community service in Pennsylvania by supporting this resolution. |
