Subject: | Recognizing Worldwide Candle Lighting Day |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing December 10, 2017, as “Worldwide Candle Lighting Day” in Pennsylvania and commemorating the work of The Compassionate Friends. “Worldwide Candle Lighting Day” is a day on which families honor the memories of deceased sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren by lighting candles for one hour. This day of remembrance started in 1997 and has since grown to thousands of candle lighting events that are held across the world. “Worldwide Candle Lighting Day” is believed to be the largest mass candle lighting in the world and this year’s event marks the 21st annual Worldwide Candle Lighting. “Worldwide Candle Lighting Day” was started by a peer support group called The Compassionate Friends, which provides comfort to bereaved families experiencing the death of a child. The Compassionate Friends was established in England over 40 years ago and now has nearly 700 chapters in all 50 states. Please join me in recognizing this important day and the work done by The Compassionate Friends. |
