MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 2, 2016 03:46 PM
From: Representative Stephen Barrar and Rep. Robert F. Matzie, Rep. Dan L. Miller
To: All House members
Subject: RESOLUTION URGING CONGRESS TO REJECT AND OPPOSE THE TRANS-PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP (TPP)

In the very near future I plan to introduce a resolution that urges Congress to reject the Federal Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The TPP is the latest in a line of poorly designed trade deals that have destroyed our manufacturing base and negatively impacted on our middle class, both in our state and across our nation.

The TPP doubles-down on the destruction caused by NAFTA. It has largely been negotiated in the dark, further ties our hands in dealing with unbalanced trade, and is likely to increase the dumping of products and commodities into our country at a time when thousands of manufacturing jobs are being lost. Every “free trade” deal has resulted in the loss of American jobs and an erosion in our middle class. In order for American businesses and unions even to seek relief they must first suffer job and market share loss- two things that have proven very difficult to regain even with a positive ruling.

Enough is enough. Please join us in a sending a united message to our federal representatives that we stand with American manufacturers and unions against the TPP. No more hemorrhaging of middle class, family-sustaining jobs.
