Subject: | Resolution designating May 2016 as Boy Scout Month |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating May 2016 as “Boy Scout Month” in Pennsylvania to recognize the role and significance of this noble and important organization. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. The organization is composed of nearly 2.5 million youth members between the ages of 6 and 20, as well as approximately 960,000 volunteers in local councils throughout the United States and its territories. For more than a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The BSA believes that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society. Collectively, Scouts across America recorded more than 14 million hours of service to their communities in 2014, at a value of more than $323 million. Please join me in recognizing this important organization and the role it has served in our country and in the Commonwealth to enrichen the lives of our youth. |
