Subject: | Shaken Baby Syndrome Awareness Week |
I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the week of April 17-23, 2016 as "Shaken Baby Syndrome Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania. In the United States, between 750 and 3,750 infants and young children are diagnosed with shaken baby syndrome every year. Approximately one third of the victims die as a result of direct brain injuries. In 2006, Pennsylvania became the first state to provide hospital-based education in 100% of all birthing and children's hospitals. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution to bring awareness to this entirely preventable injury. |
