Subject: | Antlered Deer Season change |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that would change the first day of the regular antlered deer hunting season to the first Saturday following Thanksgiving. Over the holiday weekend, I had calls from folks about changing the “first day of buck”. Many of these individuals have moved out of the Commonwealth but return to Pennsylvania for the Thanksgiving holiday. They would like to return to the sport they enjoyed when being raised in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, they have to return to their homes by Tuesday after Thanksgiving which prevents them from hunting. By changing the date for the “first day of buck” season to Saturday, it would enable hunters to enjoy the Pennsylvania woods while "home for the holiday". This will also enable hunters to introduce the sport to their children and/or grandchildren. It would allow seasoned hunters extra time to re-enforce gun safety and to teach proper animal tracking techniques and sportsman etiquette in the woods to novice or young hunters. In addition, should this legislation be enacted, there could be an increase in nonresident licenses to accommodate hunters over the Thanksgiving weekend. If you have any questions, please contact Margaret Tricarico (mtricari@pahouse.net or 717-772-5568 or Democratic Extension 6168). Thank you! |
