Subject: | June 2015 "Cockayne Syndrome Awareness Month" |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a House Resolution recognizing June 2015 as “Cockayne Syndrome Awareness Month” in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Cockayne Syndrome (CS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by poor growth, premature aging, sensitivity to sunlight, moderate to profound developmental and neurological delays and a shortened lifespan. In order for a child to be affected by CS, he or she must inherit a mutation in the same CS gene from both parents. Once parents are known carriers, they have a 1 in 4 (25%) chance of having another child with CS. There is currently no known cure for CS. Therefore, I am introducing this resolution in hope that it will increase awareness across the Commonwealth about this condition. Thank you for your interest and support. |
