Subject: | Hotel Room Rental Tax |
MEMORANDUM In the near future, I will be introducing legislation amending the act of Aug. 9, 1955, (P.L. 323, No. 130), also known as the County Code, to enable third class counties with a convention center to increase their hotel room rental tax by up to 2%. Currently, third class counties with a convention center may impose a maximum hotel room rental tax of 5% with the revenues generated from the tax going to the county authority for convention center purposes and to the county’s tourist promotion agency fund. My legislation will enable these counties to impose an additional hotel room rental tax of up to 2%. All of the revenues generated from the additional tax are to be annually deposited in a special fund for use by the county for debt service. As many of our counties and local municipalities continue to struggle with financial obligations and mandatory cost increases, this legislation will give counties an option to transfer funds to be used exclusively for debt reduction. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
