Subject: Resolution honoring VISIT PHILADELPHIA

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution honoring VISIT PHILADELPHIA, one the nation’s premier regional attractions marketing agencies missioned to increase the number of visitors, the numbers of the nights they stay, and the number of things they do in the historic city of Philadelphia and the Southeastern Pennsylvania region.
Founded in 1996 as the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC), leaders of VISIT PHILADELPHIA have worked strategically to increase leisure travelers to the City. Through the implementation of award-winning campaigns such as With Love and Get Your History Straight & Your Nightlife Gay, the City’s tourism industry has witnessed an influx of 12 million more travelers to the region, a 78% increase in overnight trips, and an 84% surge in extended leisure excursions. This greater-than-average growth is evident in the additional 5.4 million occupied hotel rooms since 1997.

Today, leisure and hospitality is the sixth largest industry in Greater Philadelphia, supporting over 90,000 full-time jobs and generating an economic impact of more than $10 billion. VISIT PHILADELPHIA has and continues to serve as a catalyst for this movement by showcasing and strengthening the ever-evolving Philadelphia brand. Targeted campaigns speaking directly to art lovers, urban adventurers, millennials, and families have proved to be successful in cementing the City’s and region’s place in this industry.

Over the past decade, VISIT PHILADELPHIA has received numerous awards and accolades from several of the industry’s leading media organizations including The New York Times, Travel + Leisure, and Condé Nast Traveler. Just this year, Philadelphia has topped the charts as the 3rd best place to visit in the world, the 2nd best place to shop in the world, and the 4th best place to visit in the U.S. Lonely Planet. Moreover, President and Chief Executive Officer, Meryl Levitz, a hospitality guru, received a special feature in Philadelphia University’s Innovator magazine and recognition as one of the World’s Top Travel Marketers by Skift50.

VISIT PHILADELPHIA has been an excellent addition to the city of Philadelphia and the Southeastern Pennsylvania region. Its leisure and economic impact continue to make the City of Brotherly Love a premier destination for regional, national, and global travelers.

Please join me in congratulating VISIT PHILADELPHIA on its accomplishments in fostering a thriving leisure and hospitality industry in the City of Philadelphia and the Southeastern Pennsylvania region.

Thank you for your support of this important legislation.
