Subject: | Unfundated Mandates on School Districts |
Too often school districts are saddled with increasing costs from new mandates out of Harrisburg. The financial impact of these mandates on school districts is significant requiring school districts to implement new education policies without providing the necessary funding. Although these mandates come with good intentions, they often lead to unintended consequences for students and taxpayers. These consequences often include less money reaching the classroom and/or increased property taxes. In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to amend the constitution to prohibit unfunded mandates on school districts. Under this bill, any mandate passed by legislation or executive action must be fully-funded. This funding would have to be available for school districts prior to implementation of the mandate. By placing this restriction in the constitution, school districts will be able to focus on directing more money into the classroom without raising property taxes. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to prevent unfunded mandates on school districts and keep money in the classroom.
