Subject: | Hotel Room Rental Tax in Certain Third Class Counties - Former HB2239 |
I plan to introduce legislation making changes to York County's hotel room tax. The bill would give the commissioners the option to impose a room tax of up to 5 percent. Currently the county levies a tax of 3 percent under the authority of Section 1770.2 of the County Code, which also applied to several other counties. All of the counties covered under this section have a maximum room tax of 3 percent. The bill would remove York County from Section 1770.2 and place it under its own room tax law, with the maximum rate increased to 5 percent. That's basically the only change the county will experience - the language covering the imposition of the tax and the disposition of the revenue would remain the same as it is currently, and no other counties would be affected. |
