Subject: | Designating a bridge, Corporal Clyde E. Walter, Jr. |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to designate a bridge located on State Route 3002 over South Poplar Run in Greenfield Township, Blair County, as the Corporal Clyde E. Walter, Jr. Memorial Bridge. Corporal Clyde E. Walter, Jr. served in the Vietnam War in the United States Army. On October 11, 1970, his platoon came under intense hostile fire. He moved forward to place accurate suppressive fire on the enemy position to allow the other members of his platoon to reach cover. Though wounded in initial contact, Cpl. Walter refused medical treatment in order to hold his position and block any enemy advance. He died a short time later from his injuries. Corporal Clyde E. Walter, Jr. was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action. However, at the time of his death, he already held the Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with V for heroism, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, several badges for marksmanship, and the Purple Heart. Please join me in sponsoring this legislation to honor Blair County’s fallen hero. |
