Subject: | Addition of Judge to Juvenile Detention Board |
I plan to introduce legislation in the near future which would allow a judge of the court of common pleas to serve on a juvenile detention board in third class counties. Because the courts are intimately involved in the cases of juveniles, a judge’s unique perspective can be a valuable addition to the board. My legislation would add a provision similar to language currently providing for judicial membership on prison boards. Under my bill, the president judge in each judicial district could serve on the board or designate a judge to serve. Likewise, the president judge would have the discretion to delete the judge position from the board. This legislation was drafted in cooperation with the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania and has been reviewed and agreed to by the Juvenile Court Judges Commission. If you have any questions regarding this proposed bill, please contact Anne Achenbach, of my staff, at 7-4404 or aachenbach@pasen.gov. |
