Subject: | Support Services for Children of Military Service Members |
I am preparing to introduce legislation to provide a support system for elementary and high school students whose parents or guardians are in the military and may be deployed for an extended period. This proposal aims to open communication between military-connected families and school districts to identify students who may benefit by having access to support services. My legislation proposes that school districts offer families the option of communicating that a parent or guardian is a member of one of the armed forces, including the Pennsylvania National Guard and the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. In the event that the school district is notified that a child’s parent or guardian has been activated or deployed, the school district will then be directed to provide access to school guidance counselors and existing federal or state military support services. Please join me in connecting services to the children of Pennsylvanians who are serving our great country. Thank you for your consideration. |
