Subject: | Pediatric Cancer Research Registration Plate (Former HB 746) |
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce HB 746 from last session. This bill will establish a Pediatric Cancer Research registration plate to be offered by the Department of Transportation. This bill will direct the Department to develop a plate in consultation with relevant stakeholders and collect a fee from individuals interested in supporting Pediatric Cancer Research. The funds raised will be deposited into a fund to be distributed to institutions within the Commonwealth conducting Pediatric Cancer Research. It’s heartbreaking to see these children suffer and a tragedy when they lose the fight against pediatric cancer. Seven children will die today from cancer. Another 46 children will be diagnosed with cancer today and 1 in 5 of them will eventually die from cancer. Pediatric cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among U.S. children ages 1-14 and the average age of death for a child with cancer is 8. This bill goes beyond simply raising awareness to pediatric cancer but will help fund Pediatric Cancer Research. It’s time we take real action to help fund a cure. Last session 157 members cosponsored this bill. Please join me and co-sponsor this legislation. |
