Subject: | Corrective Reprint: Electronic Voter Registration |
In the near future, We plan on re-introducing legislation offered last year, the former House Bill 1727, which would provide for electronic voter registration in Pennsylvania. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, 17 states now have laws authorizing electronic voter registration. This legislation brings an efficient and cost-effective pathway for Pennsylvanians to register to vote, to maintain improved voter rolls and to increase civic participation at all levels. Our legislation would do the following:
By allowing electronic voter registration in addition to our current registration process, we have an opportunity to help many cash-strapped counties across Pennsylvania save money by cutting down on staff time used to manually input paper voter registration forms, while also decreasing opportunities for human error during data entry. While there would be upfront costs necessary to implement the program, long-term cost savings would provide a benefit to county voter services departments, our Commonwealth and, most importantly, its citizens. We ask that you join us in this effort by co-sponsoring this legislation. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either of us at any time.
