MILLER, James, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, October 26, 1821 in the city of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; curator, University at Lewisburg (now Bucknell University); deputy recorder of deeds, Philadelphia (1846-1850); elected, district surveyor (1850-1862); builder; president, West Philadelphia Institute (22 years); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1863 and 1864; reelected to the House in 1869 and 1870; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1865, 1871); surveyor; elected, select council, city of Philadelphia (1874-1877); conveyancer; died, August 30, 1880 in the city of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, West Laurel Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
