WISE, Helen Dickerson, a Representative from Centre County; born, September 11, 1928 in Sussex, Sussex County, NJ; graduated, State College High School; B.A., The Pennsylvania State University, 1949; M.Ed., The Pennsylvania State University, 1952; D.Ed., The Pennsylvania State University, 1968; social studies teacher (1968-1976); appointed, president, Pennsylvania State Education Association (1969); elected, board of trustees, The Pennsylvania State University (1969-1990; trustee emerita, 1990); president, National Education Association (1973-1974); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1977 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1978); executive director, Delaware State Education Association (1979-1985); Secretary for Legislative Affairs, Office of the Governor Robert P. Casey (1987); Secretary to the Cabinet, Governor Robert P. Casey (1987-1995); deputy chief of staff for programs, Office of the Governor (1990-1995); gubernatorial appointee, board, Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) (1995-2000).
