SCHMITT, Chester L., a Representative from Armstrong, Butler, and Westmoreland Counties; born in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pa., May 8, 1912; S.R.A., University of Pittsburgh, 1960; real estate, insurance broker and appraiser; teacher, The Pennsylvania State University, New Kensington Center; elected, council, New Kensington (1950-1954); campaign chair, Clark-Dilworth Campaign; county vice chair, Kennedy-Johnson Campaign; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1964; served 7 consecutive terms thereafter; appointed, Special Committee to Investigate the Energy Crisis (1973); appointed, Select Committee to Review Insurance Regulations (1974); appointed, Select Committee on Three Mile Island (1979); not a candidate for reelection to the House (1980); died, February 20, 1993 in New Kensington, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; interred, Saint Joseph Church Cemetery, New Kensington, Wesstmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
