GALLEN, James J., a Representative from Berks County; born in Reading, Berks County, Pa., August 15, 1928; B.S., Villanova University; served, United States Army; insurance agent; member, Young Republicans Club; chair, Republican Committee of Berks County; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to the 1965 term and served 13 terms thereafter; appointed, Pennsylvania Commission on Interstate Cooperation (1975-1980); appointed, Select Committee to Investigate the Bidding Requirements for Certain PennDOT Contracts (1985); appointed, Select Committee to Investigate the Pennsylvania State Police (1986); appointed, chair, Select Committee to Study Business Activities of Nonprofits (1987-1988); appointed, board, State Employees Retirement System (1989-1992); not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1993 term; unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1992); died, April 12, 2012 in Shillington, Berks County, Pennsylvania; interred at Fairview Cemetery, Shillington, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
