MURT, Thomas Paul, a Representative from Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties; born in Abington, Montgomery County, Pa., 1960; graduated, Archbishop Wood High School, 1978; B.S., economics, The Pennsylvania State University, 1982; M.A., education, La Salle University, 1988; teaching certificate, business education, Gwynedd-Mercy College, 1997; atteneded, economics, Temple University; Ed.D., educational administration, Temple University; staff sergeant, United States Army Reserves (1990-2008; active duty, 4th Infantry Division, 2003-2004: Army Commendation Medal recipient); assistant director, Counseling and Advising Center, The Pennsylvania State University, Abington; associate director of admissions and head wrestling coach, La Salle University; faculty member, business department, The Pennsylvania State University, Abington; school director, Upper Moreland Township; author, “Voice from Iraq,” weekly newspaper columns (2003-2004); elected, commissioner, Upper Moreland Township; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 2007 term; reelected to the House for 6 more consecutive terms; appointed, Pennsylvania Statewide Suicide Prevention Task Force (2019-2020); not a candidate for reelection to the House (2020).
