LINTON, John, Jr., a Representative from Cambria and Somerset Counties; born, May 12, 1809 in Frankstown, Blair County, Pa.; captain, Conemaugh Guards, Pennsylvania Militia (1840-1853); major, brigade inspector, Conemaugh Guards, Pennsylvania Militia (1849); clerk, general store; proprietor, general store (1838-1845); elected as an Independent Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1843 term; reelected as a Whig to the House for the 1844 and 1851 terms; engaged, iron furnace construction (1845-1849); engaged, iron bridge and railroad construction (1849-1857); elected, delegate, Whig National Convention (1852); contractor, federal infrastructure, railroads and steamboat wharves (1861-1862); died, December 5, 1894 in Rochester, Beaver County, Pennsylvania; interred, Beaver Cemetery, Beaver, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.
