LINTON, John Park, a Representative from Cambria County; born, January 26, 1833 in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pa.; attended, Jefferson College (now Jefferson and Washington College); studied law under Cyrus L. Pershing; captain, company F, 3rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861, Civil War); lieutenant colonel, 54th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862-1865, Civil War); attorney (1854-1892); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania surveyor general (1865); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1866 and 1867; unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1868); secretary of council, Johnstown; elected, council, Johnstown; elected, delegate, National and State Republican Conventions; unsuccessful campaign, president judge, Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas, Cambria County (1891); died, August 31, 1892 in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania; interred. Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania.
