WHELAN, James Octavius, Jr., a Representative from Cambria and Westmoreland Counties; born in Petersburg, Va., September 19, 1936; graduated, Staunton (Va.) Military Academy; B.S, University of Richmond; M.A., industrial relations, St. Francis College; served, United States Navy (1956-1959); elected, council, Westmont Borough (1971-1974); founder and president, Mr. Gas, Inc.; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in a Special Election on May 21, 1974 to serve the remaining 1973 term; Sworn-In, June 11, 1974 and reelected to the House to serve the 1975 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1976); died, April 18, 2018 in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia.
