RHEY, John S., a Representative from Armstrong, Cambria, Clarion and Jefferson Counties; born, December 22, 1818 in Ebensburg, Cambria County, Pa.; attended, Mount Saint Mary’s College, 1834-1837; attended, Jefferson College (now Washington and Jefferson College), 1837; attended, Judge Reed’s Law School (now Penn State Dickinson Law), Carlisle, Pa.,1839-1841; attorney-at-law (1841-1891); appointed, District Attorney, Armstrong County (1842-1847); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1850, 1851 and 1852 terms; elected, Speaker (1852); political editor, Cambria Freeman; reelected to the House for the 1887 and 1889 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1890); died, June 29, 1891, in Allegheny City (now Pittsburgh), Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
