Robert Douglas Heaton was born in Raven Run, Schuylkill County, Pa., July 1, 1873, the son of William and Emily Heaton. He moved to Ashland, Pa., with his parents, 1886; attended the common schools; the Canandaigua Academy (Canandaigua, N.Y.); the New York Military Academy at Cornwall on the Hudson, N.Y., and the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia. Robert pursued a successful business career and served in Congress, 1915-1919; elected to the state Senate, 1919-1932; resumed his former business activities; was a member of the board of trustees of the Ashland State Hospital; died at Ashland, Pa., June 11, 1933; interment in the family cemetery at Mauch Chunk, Pa.
