Col. Michael Schmyser; born on November 21, 1740, York, Pa., the son of Mathias and Anna Koppenhoffer Smyser; Col. Revolution, in 1775 spearheaded financial support of Boston; captured at Ft. Washington, 1776; returned in 1778; elected to colonial Assembly, 1788; state Senate, 1790-1795; pursued agriculture and owned a tavern; died on July 7, 1810 at home, Berlin Road, 3 miles west of York, interred in the First Lutheran graveyard. He married Anna Maria “Mary” Hoke.
Two grandnephews (sons of his brother Mathias, Jr.) also served in the state Senate – Henry and Philipp Smyser.
