Born in Kennett Township, Chester County, November 16, 1879, the son of William H. Scarlett, was educated at George School, Newtown, Bucks County and Swarthmore College; pursued citrus farming in Puerto Rico, 1900; returned to Kennett Square, employed with a Fiber Specialty Company; secretary and general manager, 1913; Director of the Kennett Trust Co; the Standard Fiber Co.; the Glaciser Co.; president of the Mushroom Transportation Co.; director of the Pheolite Co.; president of the Progressive Building and Loan Co.; and numerous civic, social, and fraternal organizations. From 1917 to 1930, he served as Burgess of Kennett Square, was a delegate to the Republican National Convention, 1928, 1944; elected to the state Senate, serving 1937-1952. He married Elsie L. Gawthrop in 1905. Senator Scarlett died in office on December 17, 1952.
