Major David Mumma Jr., born July 28, 1816, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania; son of David Sr., and Esther Schott Mumma; public school education; major, Dauphin County Militia, Pennsylvania Militia; engaged, farming, lumber business, mercantile pursuits; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 1840; director, Cash Mutual Fire Insurance Company, Harrisburg, 1850; read law, admitted bar, began the practice of legal profession, Harrisburg, 1853-1893; elected, (Union Republican and North American), Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 1856-1857; elected, delegate, Republican National Convention, 1860; president, East Harrisburg Cemetery Association; elected, Republican Pennsylvania State Senate, 1870-1872; married, Lydia Detweiler Mumma, children, Sue Shelley Mumma Major, David D.
