Francis Salisbury McElhenny; married Marie Louise Hoopes. Born in Columbus, Georgia, October 3, 1873, son of John and Bernie (Bell) McElhenny; family moved to Philadelphia in 1876, escaping poverty in the South; attended private schools; graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with A.B., 1895; Penn Law School, 1898; corporation and business attorney; director of the Pelham Trust Co., the Underwriters Securities Co., the First Mortgage Guarantee and Trust Co., and the Montgomery County Gas Company; aligned with the “City” (also “Reform”) Party in 1905, advocating clean government; a Republican, in 1906 he received additional endorsement from Democrats and the Lincoln Party for the state Senate;  an anti-Penrose Republican.  He died May 6, 1927.
