Daniel Lee Sherwood, Jr., born December 5, 1809 Marathon, Cortland County, New York; son of Daniel Sr., and Anna Stevens Sherwood; moved to Lamb’s Creek, Tioga County, 1830; engaged lumber, sawmill, 1830-1839; father, founded, Mansfield Baptist Church, became devout worshipper; married, Caroline Sharpe, 1832; founder, first president, Tioga County Agricultural Society; engaged, farming; established, Mansfield Classical Seminary, preceding its evolution from a State Normal School, Mansfield State Teachers College; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 1842-1843; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1844-1846, elected, Speaker, 1846; Justice of the peace, Richmond Township, Tioga County, 1854; moved, Northumberland County, 1867; resumed farming, lumber pursuits; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 1877-1879; died, October 7, 1886 (aged 76), Northumberland; interment, Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
